If you can't beat them...

What are you looking at?

Our House Martins have sadly been evicted by a pair of Sparrows.   The Sparrows had shown interest before the Matins came back, but then all seemed to have settled down.  Suddenly there was a male Sparrow in the nest and feathers etc hanging out of the entrance.

This morning these two Cock Sparrows were having a bit of a staring contest.  The general body language was "I don't like you being round here".  I assume one was the male from the nest in the corner of the roof and the other from the Martin's nest.  This is however strange behaviour as House Sparrows normally are quite colonial with their nests, so much so that "Sparrow Terrace" nest boxes are sold with 3 compartments in one box.
