Great Scot!

Today, we took ourselves off to Abbotsford House (near Melrose), home of the great Sir Walter Scott.

As you may know, Scott was one of this country's most celebrated writers, with many wonderful novels and poems to his name. (Who can forget 'Ivanhoe', or 'The Lady of the Lake?')

Lesser known poems include that magnificent classic 'The Coo'.

"On yonder hill,
There stood a coo.
It must hiv went,
It's no' there noo!"

And.......

"There was a young student from Leeds,
Who swallowed a packet of seeds.
Great tufts of green grass,
grew out of his...."

Damn. I've forgotten the rest of that one.
