Sunset over Park of Keir

Will Judy Murray get £8million of public funding to build a tennis centre on Park of Keir, our Greenbelt, an iconic landscape that separates two distinct Scottish communities of Dunblane and Bridge of Allan?

We (Residents Against Greenbelt Erosion) have campaigned for years to stop this because it comes not only with a tennis centre but a golf course and executive housing, football pitch and hotel.

Now we understand that the decision will be announced on July 1 whether the Scottish Government (read Nicola Sturgeon -she has been heavily lobbied by Judy Murray) will grant this public funding.

With our local NHS on its knees- try getting an appointment at our local surgery- is it any wonder that one local MP, Stephen Kerr, has launched a petition “No public funding of Park of Keir?

Surely there are better ways of spending public money, especially in these difficult times, than funding what is after all an elitist sport and in an area already fortunate enough to have excellent sporting facilities, including the National Tennis Centre for Scotland three miles down the road.
