Evening

I can hear water outside, probably flowing round the lock nearby. I can hear water inside, as one of our seven cleans their teeth. Apart from that there are only the small sounds of people settling down for the night: movement in a bunk, a whisper, a sigh.

I thought my sprained ankle would mean that I'd have to withdraw from this year's English teaching on the narrow boat but I have been granted permission not to jump off the boat and not to run forward to open and close locks so here I am, just outside Nantwich, three trains away from Oxford, about to take a fortnight to get to Liverpool, which I could reach in an hour by train.

Only me teaching, only three students.

Apologies, minimal commenting (so no change there!).
