Above And Beyond...

The Milky Way

With Mrs BB on a girly night away in Bath to celebrate her 60th that was last month when we were in Paxos, I took the opportunity to go out in search of some stars.

My intended plan at Rhoose Point (Cardiff) was thwarted so I headed to Nash Point a few miles away on The Vale of Glamorgan coast. The clouds had cleared somewhat and I managed to capture a reasonable photograph of The Milky Way Galaxy over the lighthouse buildings.

Lens used:     Laowa 9mm Dreamer F2.8 at F2.8

Some amazing facts about it:
The Milky Way is the galaxy that contains the Solar System, with the name describing the galaxy's appearance from Earth: a hazy band of light seen in the night sky formed from stars that cannot be individually distinguished by the naked eye.
 Radius 52,850 light years
 Stars 250 billion ± 150 billion
 Suns distance to galactic centre 26.4 ± 1.0 kly (8.09 ± 0.31 kpc)
It takes between 225 million and 250 million years for the Sun to orbit the Milky Way.
The Milky Way is one of many galaxies......according to best estimates there are 100 BILLION galaxies in the universe!!!
