FLOWER FRIDAY - GEUM "FIRE STORM"

We are really thrilled with how well our new border is coming on and it’s a delight to look at it and see all the beautiful plants coming on.  However, the sun soon dries out the ground, so Mr. HCB has had to water them so that they put down their roots and hopefully then they will keep on flowering year after year.

It may surprise you to know that I was fully dressed when I wandered round the garden today!  When I walked along the path between the new long border and the border in front of the fence, I was amazed to notice that in between all the tines of our new sculpture were spiders’ webs - although maybe they had been spun by the same spider - who knows?  Despite being blown by the rather strong breeze, they stayed intact, which was amazing.  No doubt if there are spiders living on the sculpture, they will be feeling rather dizzy today!

Here is my Blip for Flower Friday - a new Geum, again from The Walled Garden Nursery at Brinkworth, called “Fire Storm” and what a little beauty it is.  I took this just after Mr. HCB had watered the garden, as it is now mostly in shade, but in a couple of hours, it will be bathed in sunshine.

Just listening to the noise of the plane that goes up every Friday from midday until quite late, taking up parachutists - it is so intrusive but thankfully, the contract is coming to an end and they have to move by the end of August, so we will get our Friday afternoons and weekends back without that constant droning, which will be wonderful.  I know the parachutists are doing it to raise money for charity, but as I said, it is very intrusive and on a summer’s afternoon, it can give one quite a headache.

Mr. HCB has worked hard in the garden this morning, so is having a well-earned rest and I am about to go and do some retail therapy for a new fridge, before surfing the net tonight to try and get lower quotes for our house and car insurance.  It has gone up £150 from last year’s figures - despite us not making a claim on either.  Methinks it’s time for a change.

I'm going out now to see if I can smile at someone - there must be someone out there who needs a smile!

“What sunshine is to flowers,
     smiles are to humanity.
These are but trifles, to be sure;
     but scattered along life's pathway,
          the good they do is inconceivable.”
Joseph Addison
