Numbers

For reasons which are not important, this afternoon I spent a wee while hanging around the graveyard of the Old Kirk opposite the office.

This seems to be the largest memorial stone. It belongs to Robert Philp, a local linen manufacturer who died aged 77 in 1828.

77 was a good age back then. He left £70,700 in trust funds to cloth and educate local poor children. That was a lot of money in 1828.

I was allowed to return to the office eventually.
