Shady and cool

On the hottest day of the summer, and possibly the hottest day ever experienced in England, Thorpe Wood was a relatively cool oasis, the restful greens setting off the delicate blue of nettle-leaved bellflower, which is remarkably abundant along the main path.

In the afternoon Alex and I went into Peterborough to find him shoes for a wedding this coming weekend. On our way there, the thermometer in the car showed 39C, a temperature I never thought I'd see in Peterborough, but one that's likely to be experienced more frequently as the climate emergency continues.
