Harp-lute-guitar

This is the Regency Music Room in Strangers' Hall in Norwich. I finally got round to visiting it this afternoon with my Museum's Pass. Actually I found it's free entry there and at the Museum of Norwich at the moment as part of Norwich Freemen Fortnight. This did mean that there were lots of kids there, so I'll go back again on a quieter day as I really liked it. I did notice that kids that were with grandparents were so much better behaved than those that were with parents - what's that about?

The instrument in the foreground is a harp-lute-guitar made by Levien of London c1805. It's a hybrid instrument invented by Edward Light. which evidently has a harp like tone. It was 'produced for ladies as it is portable and decorative'. This and the inlaid Spanish guitar in the background 'were often played as accompaniment to voice and piano'.

I was in Norwich to buy new lenses for my two pairs of glasses due to a prescription change only two years after I got them. I got a good deal, but as they are varifocal and photochromic, it still cost over £300!
