Stanlow and Thornton Station

Chester won 2-1 today and straight after the game I went to a geocaching event at Helsby Station where there if a fantastic micro pub..

One of the reasons I wanted to go to the event was because of a new virtual geocache at Stanlow and Thornton station. It is one of the least visited stations in the UK with only 92 visitors in 2017/18 probably because it is in the middle of the oil refinery and inaccessible by car. The only way you can get there is by train or a long walk from Ince or Ellesmere Port and the only reason you would go there was if you worked at the refinery (or geocaching).

However it isn't very practical visit  because there are only 3 trains a day in each direction and I caught the (empty) train with three others for the short journey from Helsby. We then completed the geocaching task and caught the same train back 10 minutes later after it had been to Ellesmere Port.

I'm sure the cache will increase the number of visitors and it was interesting to briefly visit this very strange railway station
