Campobello Island, Canada

Today we bundled Mabel up in the car, and drove over the border into Canada to visit Campobello Island.  What a spectacular day we have had weather-wise!  Clear blue skies, sparkling water, sunshine, and a lovely cool breeze.  We visited Roosevelt Campobello International Park, where we walked a very enthusiastic doggie down to the shore, and then up a grassy meadow to FDR's 34 room "cottage" which has a beautiful view over the ocean.  Because we had Mabel with us, we couldn't go inside, but it was still lovely to stroll around the outside of the house.  Mabel was much admired by many visitors, and even made friends with a little toad she found hopping in the grass there!

Driving to Head Harbour Light, we passed through the village of Wilson's Beach, where I photographed the impressive ruins of an old wharf building.  The lighthouse was beautiful -- on its own little island only accessible to visitors at low tide.  There were plenty of signs with dire warnings about how fast the tide comes rushing in to the Bay of Fundy.  As it was high tide when we visited, we made do with admiring the view from our bigger island.  Just after we crossed back over the border into Lubec, Maine, I glanced up to the top of a pine tree and was delighted to spot a magnificent bald eagle perched there -- it made my day!
