Painting the Bard

This street art has been around for a while (at Clink Wharf in London), but the guy was touching it up today, helping to maintain its full glory. It is something of a tourist attraction - only a short walk from the Globe theatre.

We passed it en route from the R K Burt Gallery in Union Street, which is currently showing the London Salon of Photography, to the Royal Albert Hall for another visit to the Proms.  This time we were not promming:  we rewarded ourselves with a seat for an enjoyable concert which featured Queen Victoria's own piano (loaned by the current Queen) - an elaborately decorated, gold coloured instrument.  Stephen Hough played the Piano Concerto No 1 by Mendelssohn (apparently Victoria's favourite composer) and accompanied tenor Alessandro Fisher who sang songs written by Prince Albert. We also heard music by Arthur Sullivan, and Mendelssohn's "Scottish" Symphony.  All to celebrate Queen Victoria's 200th birthday.

Happy belated birthday (24th May), Victoria.
