Ballater Railway Station

A day of rather mixed weather, with a tendency towards showers. We made a stop at Ballater Railway Station newly rebuilt after the fire in 2015. The colour scheme has been altered compared to how it was previously in red and cream. Apparently the new colours are more faithful to the historical origins of the station.

It is some time since the last train passed through as this is another line which closed in the 1960s.

The rebuild is very nice, in fact it is an improvement on the original. We had already had a snack in a nearby cafe, so we could not sample the delights of the station cafe. It certainly looks very elegant.

The extra shows the royal waiting room with a table set for six. This is also quite different to the waiting room as it was shown before the fire. I wonder which version would have appeared more familiar to Queen Victoria.
