Prison Visit

A brief prison visit today with Puffin who made a short stay in Aberdeen. The picture shows a barred window and the door to one of the cells at the Tollbooth Museum.

The sign kindly points to the emergency exit, which is the only exit from the cell. I suppose prison cells are not over endowed with emergency exits. Despite that some prisoners will have managed to escape. Of course prisons are built as places to escape from.

It was very warm in the cells, air conditioning would have been good today, no doubt they are very cold in winter. Not too much in the way of creature comforts in 17th Century prison cells.

The prison is now behind the later facade built on Union Street. In the extra it lies within the building below the narrow spire with the windcock on the top
