Clianthus (kaka beak)

I've always fancied growing a kaka beak and now I have one that's flowering.

The showy red flowers resemble the beak of the kaka (an endangered native parrot). Likewise the kaka beak plant is endangered in the wild.

A couple of things I didn't know about clianthus before I was gifted one. They have a life span of only 4-5 years and they're part of a genus of flowering plants in the legume family.

It's been bleak today with the temperature in single digits and not many of them. If there had been more moisture in the southerly we may have had something other than light rain for a while.

Today's gratitude: For the line of blossom trees opposite my home. As odd as it sounds I hadn't registered them from the front windows before.
