Meet the artist

Well, it was certainly a novel experience.

Artist Linda Russell handed me a magnifying glass an invited me to admire the fine details of her watercolour paintings, life size rhododendrons.

For Linda specialises in botanical watercolours. A graduate of the Royal Botanic garden Edinburgh this former PE teacher from England only took up painting a few years ago.

Attention to detail and the capacity for lengthy focus probably reflect her early career. She certainly has the stamina for accurate intricate work.

Each watercolour takes a minimum of 300 hours and that is not counting the months of research involving visiting the plants, in situ, on the Ardvorlich  estate, studying their development throughout the season, taking photographs and doing preliminary pencil and watercolour sketches.

All this work is reflected in the price around £2,000-£3,000 .

Linda is having  her first solo exhibition this week in  the Innerpeffray  library, part of Perthshire Open Studios, venue 95
