Meander Round Mirfield

Bright and sunny with a slight breeze.

A lovely day for a walk around Mirfield.   ValC and I joined a group of walkers from the local area which was advertised as a Meander around Mirfield, moderate difficulty and 6 miles.   However, despite this it was in fact further afield, moderate to hard difficulty and 7 miles.

We enjoyed ourselves but did not have much opportunity to take many photos as the pace was quite quick and we had to keep catching up.   ValC commented at one point that we must be nearly in Dewsbury and in fact we had walked all the way to Thornhill Lees alongside the River Calder, an area I pass on my way to mum's.

The main photo of the resident Heron, which was the first photo we took along the canal.   Extras are images from our walk, including horses grazing and anxious to see what we were up to;  steps leading up from the canal;  Lees Hall (now unused) which was formerly a Mushroom farm and function rooms;  a weir we passed on the way with wild fowl;  and a footpath through the woods.   I kept asking one of the other walkers if they knew where we were but they did not!   So a bit of a mystery trip for us until we came to Lees hall.

We passed Mirfield Golf course and there were two young men playing but using a buggy! and a small local cricket club which we think may have been Lower Hopton CC.   On the way back home when we had said fairwell to our fellow walkers, ValC and I called in the Navigation Pub to refresh ourselves!

All in all, a very good day.   I think we should sleep tonight!
