There was a distinct nip in the air this morning as we headed out to the Woodland Park. I did not expect to see much - and I didn't. There seems to be a brand new crop of Speckled Woods, all fresh and undamaged as yet. I always think of them as my Autumn butterflies. The few Small Tortoiseshells I spotted are equally fresh and new. I usually see more of these in Spring. The big dragons appear to be in decline and a few darters are taking to resting on the ground or on benches where I assume they are soaking up whatever is left of the heat from the Summer sun. I will miss them when they depart.
