Hill Top

This is where we’re staying for our week in the Lakes, Hill Top, the last home of Arthur Ransome, one of the most influential people who shaped my life - sparking as it did - a lifelong love of hills, mountains and the greatest outdoors.

I remember the day her died in 1967 a few days before my 14th birthday. I told my English teacher, a Mr Onions, about Arthur Ransome’s death and he promptly set finding out about his life for homework!

And what a place. Every possible detail has been attended to. And the views over the Rusland Valley are spectacular.

The journey up from Northampton was daily good until an accident on M6 caused us to take a detour through Preston. Had another very filling lunch at the Lune Valley Bakery in Kirkby Longsdale.
