The mural the left is of Eric Batchelor, a soldier from Waimate, who was twice awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for conspicuous bravery in Italy during Word War ll.
On the right is Margaret Cruickshank, the first woman to be registered as a doctor in New Zealand, setting up general practice in Waimate.
She died during the 1918 Influenza pandemic.
