Life through the lens...

Beach surprise

A walk this morning up to the top of Godolphin Hill.  Wonderful views of Mounts Bay, right round to the North coast. Unfortunately the sun hadn't broken through, and the light was poor. So no photos, except the 2nd extra. Is It Spring?
We had a walk round Godolphin House and garden. NT.  We have been before, but like last time, not impressed.

Drove down to Helston, and had lunch at the Lakeside Cafe. Bacon sandwich for Mr C and sausage sandwich for me. Both very good.
Makes a change from pasties!

Then to Church Cove, Gunwallow, where we used to take the children many years ago.

We were surprised to see a wedding party on the beach having their photos taken. Certainly picked a good day as by then the sun had come out and it was lovely and warm.
I thought they may have been married in the little church by the beach, but no. Just came down from I don't know where, for the photos.
Good job the tide was out!

On the way back we had a look at the 13th Century St Germoe Church.
Several of my mothers relatives were buried here. We found 4 grave stones. Dating as far back as the early 1800s.
One I know is my 4th great uncle. I need to do some more research on the other ones.
It was interesting to find mention of two young men who died in the late 1800s, only in their 20s . One died in South Africa, the other in California. Obviously both ex tin miners, who went to find work in the mines overseas when the Cornish mines were closing down.
Also found St Germoe's chair, probably dating from the 13th century. It's true age and purpose remains lost, and St Germoe's Holy Well. A reconstruction of a well which existed about 1538.

Have tagged this for Wide Wednesday. Challenge " Stones". Thought this would also include rocks.
