Wandering Cádiz

I love this city. Woke to another beautiful day - sun rises around 810 and we see it over the rooftops. No where is far to walk to in this old part of Cádiz and we headed for breakfast and sat outdoors watching the locals walk to work. There were a couple of cruise ships in port and as we entered Plaza SAN Juan de Dios that looks over to the port saw the craft tents were up. Husband needed a new belt so there was a lovely ‘unique’ one had been made by this guy in the pic and he adjusted it to fit. There was a wedding going into the the city hall at the top of the Plaza and lots of stylish guests were milling around and then the beautiful bride appeared with her father.

Plaza de la Catedral is just round the corner and it was buzzing with the Spanish equivalent of the British Heart Foundation with groups of school kids performing CPR on dummy torsos.

Back to Mercado for a look and the multitudes Of fish, meat, fruit and veg and a snack from one of the stalls as you just have to sample some of the food!

Weather was perfect for a chill out for a couple of hours on The Caleta Beach, so picked up the beach chairs kindly provided by the host of our apartment and sat and watched the beach life and book reading for a couple of hours.

On way home we returned to a juice bar we found on our day trip to Cádiz last September, when the temps were 33 and all we could do was follow the shade and sit indoors. Today was a manageable 24. Ideal.

As mOST places don’t open till 2030 we were ready and waiting at the fabulous La Taperia de Columela opening their doors. Yes, people were queuing to get in. We were sitting at the bar here and again, food was perfect, not expensive but quality first class. The Carlos V brandy went down well too.

Another fab day in ancient Cádiz.
