Hooray ......

...... we managed to get a walk after all!

It rained the whole morning .... wasn't looking very promising ...... then early afternoon it finally stopped! We waited a short while to see if it was just teasing us .... but no ....... it had brightened up!

We decided it wasn't worth going far so headed off up the road to Pioneer & Beech Wood ....... part way along the road was blocked off with barriers right across!

Not to be beaten ..... we squeezed past the barrier ....... what rebels we are!

Really pleased we did ....... a short way along we heard a pair of Great Spotted Woodpecker calling to each other! We spotted this one high up in the tree .... the image is heavily cropped as it was very high up! It's mate was in a different tree. Managed to get a couple of photos of this one before they both flew away!

We carried on & had a wander round the wood ....... that's where we found the fungi .... nestled at the base of a tree.

As we were leaving the wood to head back ..... we saw a flock of Goldfinches feeding on the seeds at the side of the field ..... this is just a few of them!
