Tiny Tuesday - Something Old

This is an Ammonite fossil which I purchased a while back at the National Geographic store because I couldnt resist!! : ). And I knew it would be a perfect Blip when the opportunity arose ( like now ).

It’s very ancient and is a marine mollusc which went extinct about 66 million years ago!! Whew!! If you would like to look at the link there is a lot of info about them there. This one is very small (about the size of a 20cent coin) and they ranged in size from two meters in diameter (wow) down to this size.

The opening is filled with what looks to me like a lovely crystalline sort of substance which may or may not have been the actual body of the mollusc.
