If you can't beat them...

Fort Putnam.

For a bit of exercise I wandered along one of the local roads (Oh how I miss public access to Greystoke Forest).  Keeping my eye out for a blip I saw Fort Putnam across the fields.  So that is my blip.

Fort Putnam is one of three follies built by Charles Howard 11th Duke of Norfolk around 1789.  The others are Bunker Hill and Spire House.    Why he should choose to name one after battles in the American War of Independence and one after a fort at West Point I have no idea.  The real Fort Putnam was completed in 1778.
