Brittle

It was sunlight poking intermittently through the clouds, backlighting yellow/orange leaves on a small tree next to the pond, that attracted me to this scene.

I tried to frame it without sky, but even so, I was concerned the bright colour would not stand out as there didn't seem enough contrast against the background. With a bit of judicial dodging and burning, I think I arrived at the result I wanted.

In the end however, it was the brittle, whitish, decaying undergrowth in the foreground, which creates another layer to the image, making it my choice for today.
