Nick Ground's arranged flowers at Wroughton

Helena arranged to sell her cards at a regular meeting of a flower arranging group, whom we had met at their annual conference last summer at Westonbirt House. Today's meeting involved driving to Wroughton, a small village near to Swindon in torrential rain for an early evening start, which wasn't my favourite occupation.

Once there we sold cards and Helena made good contacts with the organisers. We waited whilst the meeting went ahead with a presentation by Nick Grounds, an apparently well known flower arranger from Lincolnshire. He had a very entertaining patter which he kept up whilst preparing about seven different types of arrangements.

I was at the back of the hall and once he'd finished I joined the congregation of the audience who rushed up to the stage to grab photographs recording his creations. To grab any pictures I had to hold my camera high in the air over the heads of all the others scrambling for their own positions. It was a free for all, not unlike a rugby scrum, but I persevered for the sake of at least one blip, and it wasn't my finest hour.

This was the first of the arrangements he had made.
