Ruins of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament

Wrecked in the 2011 earthquake in Christchurch New Zealand. This once beautiful building is to be demolished. It would cost more than $150million to restore it and the new bishop has decided it would be better to spend $40million on a scaled down cathedral closer to the centre of town. There had been a plan to restore part of the building but this has now been cancelled. There is no date for demolition, and no budget yet. To see what it looked like before the quakes this website has some lovely images.
