Velvet Shank

As a break from all the hustle and bustle of Christmas I had a slow walk round Thorpe Wood NR this afternoon photographing fungi in the gloom. I tried identifying them using my Christmas present - the two volume Fungi of Temperate Europe. I made some progress, though, as usual, there were still a number that defeated me. This was one of the easy ones I knew already - Velvet Shank Flammulina velutipes. And spring can't be too far away - I spotted the first bluebell leaves pushing through the leaf litter.
