Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Jerry Lee Lewis and Gillian Welch - Release Me (2010)
I won't mention the sixties MOR hit that kept the Beatles off the number one spot, but the history of the song goes back to 1949 when first recorded by co-writer Eddie "Piano" Miller, and was a major R&B hit in 1962 by Little Esther Phillips (possibly the best version). It has become something of a standard, recorded in many genres by many artists, including Jerry Lee Lewis, who had a second go at it in 2010 on an album of duets, Mean Old Man, having previously released it in 1969. This version was my pick from Cerys Matthew's show this morning, previously unknown to me.
