Water wheel

We were woken by wind and rain – not really holiday weather. It seemed like a good excuse to stay in bed and read my book.  TT however, did got for a run.  What to do on such a horrid day?  Working our way through the local National Trust delights, we drove to Finch Foundry.  The weather seemed to be improving and even getting a little bit brighter – but maybe that was just wishful thinking.  When we got to the village (Sticklepath), I had a sense of having been there before.  I am sure that TT and I once spent a night in a hotel there on our way to Cornwall.  He didn’t remember, but I am sure we did.

Anyway, when we parked up the heavens opened and it poured, really poured.  We had our picnic in the car, Once it had eased off, we ventured out for a  look around the Foundry, an interesting example of Victorian engineering, followed by a lovely walk along the river.  When we got back, we got tea and cakes from the café and chose a spot in the garden, until the rain started, so we sheltered in a summer house.  It really poured again.  Our next stop was Okehampton Castle – in the rain (extra), before going in search of Lydford Gorge.  It had just closed when we arrived, so we headed home to dry off.
