Reflections

This morning a mob of black-headed gulls dropped into the garden, vying with the carrion crows and magpies for the last of the turkey scraps. The feeders were busy with smaller birds, including a very busy male blackcap (see extra).
My last walk of the year was to Swaddywell Pit NR, where some late afternoon sunshine made the limestone cliffs glow spectacularly and created all sorts of interesting reflections of reeds, willows and birches in the quarry pools. I then watched the last sunset of the decade from behind a stand of teasels, that provide plenty of seed for the resident goldfinches.
Happy New Year!
