Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Reflecting

I find myself increasingly reflecting on the state of the world and it's not a pretty sight!
Each day brings another item of depressing news. Today, I learned that the Yangtze River paddlefish has been declared extinct. Up to 23 feet long, the Chinese paddlefish was one of the largest freshwater fish in the world. It had thrived for millions of years but human activity has eliminated it in a few decades; dams on the Yangtze have prevented its reproductive migrations into the upper river while overfishing and industrial pollution have caused mass deaths.

The photograph is of reflections in a local harbour.
