Obligatory snow and ice blip
Sorry. Couldn't resist capturing this beast though. This ice feature is at the side of the road near the village of Wormleighton. It is unique in the hedgerow and I have no idea what conditions can have caused it to form. It stands about 4' high. I shot our 'comedy 4x4' in the background for a bit of scale.
Wormleighton has an intesreting history, being the home of the Spencer family during their heyday. The Spencers started out as sheep farmers in pre-Tudor times but rose to opulent prominence during the 16th century where it was said that Lord Robert Spencer, 1st Baron Spencer of Wormleighton, was reputed to be the richest man in England. His descendants included Winston Churchill and Lady Diana.
On the 22nd October 1622 the Parliaments forces were marched north to prevent the Royalists attacking London. They came together by accident in Wormleighton (where Prince Rupert was lodging). The following day, the first major battle of the English Civil war occured at nearby Edgehill.
