Backburn

This is a view of the backburn conducted at the height of the fires along Nellies Glen Road, just past our farm.
On the left is dense bush which continues without a break to the south of Katoomba, Medlow Bath and Blackheath.
The fire was burning further away on the right hand side.
The backburn stopped the fire crossing Nellies Glen Road from where it would no doubt have proceeded up to the townships as there would have been nowhere to fight it from, except maybe from the air if conditions allowed.
Just another thing to thank our wonderful fire fighters for.
Tragically three from America who came to help us died today when their water bombing plane crashed.

As it's Abstract Thursday with a theme of nature I have added a crop of the trees as the first extra. (Sorry to send you to extras Ingeborg but I wanted the backburn as my main blip).

After the brief respite, today was quite horrid with high temperatures, strong winds and lots of dust.
Those familiar with Megalong Valley might be interested to see it not looking its best in the second extra.
Commiserations to anyone who paid for a car wash recently :-(
