Or 'common seal', if you prefer. The 'common' part is now deemed unsuitable given the crash in numbers of this animal. I think no animal or bird should be called common because it just encourages us to ignore its needs in habitat etc. I walked along Birsay Bay to beyond the Whalebone and back to the village.
