antarctic Adventure - Day 4 Paradise Harbour

Antarctic Journal  Day 4
21st January 2020

What a magical place this is.  After landing on Danco island in the morning with its icebergs on the black sand beach we sailed to Paradise harbour where there is an Argentinian base on the site where 2 teenage boys once survived a winter under an upturned boat.

Paradise harbour is aptly named with its brash ice and high cliffs of ice surrounding us.   A Greenpeace boat was also there,  apparently doing research into global warming.

This area is full of Gentoo penguins,  characterised by their orange beaks.   My main picture shows a particularly cute pair of chicks being sheltered from the circulating Skua birds hunting for a chick for lunch

We landed briefly at Base Brown which was our first chance to set foot on the actual Antarctic continent.

The evening finished with a fun (and extremely cold) barbecue on the top deck of our ship.
