Black-headed Gulls: Intertwined

Look in large ("L"): these two gulls are intertwined! The upper bird's wings are around the lower bird's body: its right wing is between two of the feathers on the lower bird's tail... Can you guess where the bread is?

I had such fun at the pond this morning: a child was feeding the birds with his two parents, and the father was throwing the bread up for the gulls who proceeded to form their usual gull carousel formation (wheeling around for successive goes at catching the bread...). The man was lofting the bread up higher than people usually do, so the gulls would swoop in low (as usual), before seeing the bread shoot up, when they'd crane their necks and then follow it at breakneck speed (a race to catch it): the projectile mechanics (in the gulls' brains) and aerobatics involved were spectacular!
The speed with which they change direction, the shapes they contort their bodies and wings into, and the control involved in hovering and changing their speed and direction are all stunning to watch and photograph.

I could upload a dozen photographs, but have chosen this (more unusual) one because it shows the precision involved and the narrow margins they leave between themselves. I've also uploaded a couple of wider shots to blipfolio which shows the bustle and chaos of the carousel (here), and the aerobatics involved in being the first to the bread (here).
