Pareora Dam

My entry for Derelict Sunday.
I’ve blipped this dam a few times over the years but never have I seen such a miserly flow of water.
Of course we are in drought conditions and with little rain for months it is not surprising.
This dam was completed in 1881 and supplied water for the Timaru district until 1939. Since then it has continued to deteriorate to this state of dereliction. The signs say no swimming or diving. A young lady lost her life here a few years back.
Today the water was disgusting and smelly as well. We need rain to refresh the local rivers. In UK and parts of Australia they are experiencing excessive rainfalls and flooding.
We walked with our friends to the dam this morning. A walk with lots of memories for them from their teenage years camping and swimming there.
It was exceedingly hot today 31°, too hot for us all.
We finished off a great weekend with them with a late lunch at our local cafe sitting outside. Something that rarely happens.
They have now left to travel home. We’ve flopped on the couch feeling exhausted.
