Fake Little Tern

This Tern was one of two sitting on poles at Leighton Moss this morning. It has no legs and appears to be made of wood.

A quick search through Google tells me that the RSPB has also set some up at Minsmere on the Suffolk coast.

Apparently Little Terns fly over this area but roost in groups. So this is an attempt to persuade them that some of there number are already here on this little island in the hope that the real ones will come down to join them. I will report if it is a success.

Storm Dennis seems to be very selective in the areas it chooses to damage. One must have much sympathy for the people in South Wales. But here this morning we have had sunshine, no rain and just a good breeze. The walk round the bird reserve was enjoyable and provided Coaltit and Robin shots for my extras.
