Little Egret

I needed some petrol and a car wash, so it was a good excuse to head out for a coffee and a short walk around Shepherd Meadows and its balancing pond.  The meadows were fulfilling their role by soaking up the large amount of water which has fallen as rain recently, and were well flooded in part. The pond itself, was also doing its job as an element of the local urban drainage system used to control flooding by temporarily storing flood waters.  The pond had actually overflowed onto the perimeter path in places!

Today the pond was host to the normal range of common water birds, but I also spotted this Little Egret, as species I've not seen here before, hunched up on the small island.  I also saw a grey heron flying around, but sadly was not ready with the camera to catch him!
