Life in Newburgh on Ythan

The canoe builder

I have been scanning more of my old transparencies. This one came from the big box labelled South Pacific.

The first Festival of Pacific Arts took place in Suva, Fiji from May 6-20th in 1972.  The festival was created as a way for the indigenous peoples of the SouthPacific to assert and revitalize their cultural identity through the artistic expression of history and traditions.

This gentleman busily hand crafting a canoe from a tree was from the Cook Islands.

The photograph was taken on Kodachrome using a Leica IIIB dating from 1939.
