ONCE AGAIN, IT'S WEDNESDAY.....

…..so it’s "Girls About Town"!  We had a new “girl” driving the desk today, Verity - who is standing behind me in our obligatory selfie, with Angela next to her and our lovely guest, Michelle Phillips kindly holding the phone - perhaps I need to get myself a “selfie stick”!

We had a great programme, although beforehand, although Verity is an experienced “desk driver” and presenter, she said she had been away for three weeks in New Zealand and hadn’t done anything like this for a couple of months and certainly not on this particular programme.  In fact, I was the only one who had been on the show consistently because Jo, our usual presenter was still away looking after her Mum, who is ill, and Clare was away looking after her poorly dog, so Verity was asking lots of questions about how things were done.  I assured her there was no script at all and we just “bumbled” along bounced off each other during the chat times.  However, it was evident watching Verity driving the desk that she was an accomplished presenter, although I don’t think she was used to having three ladies at once on a programme.

Michelle had come in to talk about her company called Magnetic Mindset and as is quite usual these days, was sporting a logo on her tee shirt.  It was very interesting listening to her and if you want to know more, then do have a look on her website.  She talked about “Mind Harmony” which is designed to help build self-esteem and confidence and bring clarity to thoughts.  I liked the line on her flyer which says, “Think of it like gym for your mind”.

Michelle was very knowledgeable about her subject and partway through the programme, whilst Frank Sinatra was dreamily singing “Strangers in the Night”, she did what she called a “body scan”, but this was done “off air” because if people were driving, it wouldn’t be a good idea for them to shut their eyes and think about their breathing!  However, it enabled us to be aware of our breathing and every part of our body in the present moment and even after a couple of minutes, Angela said she felt very sleepy!

Fortunately, none of us did sleep and we enjoyed the programme immensely.  One of the songs that was played was this one, "Wear Sunscreen",  which is advice Verity's son said he would give to anyone going off after university.   I had never heard of either the song or the singer, Baz Luhrmann - but it is worth listening to and made us smile and also nod in agreement - there was so much in it that was true.

These are a couple of lines from the song - very pertinent for many of us:

“Get to know your parents,
     you never know when they'll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings;
     they are the best link to your past
          and the people most likely to stick with you
               in the future.”
Baz Luhrmann
