Male Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus)

A snatched shot through the blinds.  When the Sparrowhawk has made a pass through the garden it normally lands on the Squirrel feeder.  If it hasn't been successful it doesn't stay long, if it is successful it uses the feeder as a plucking post.  Today it was unsuccessful but there was still time for both of us to grab some shots.

Sparrowhawks are doing well and of no conservation concern.  This is fortunate as there has been a steep rise in illegal killing of birds of prey.  2018 (the last year for which figures are available) had 67 cases of illegal persecution, equalling the previous highest number from 2007.
