Life Savors

Northern Flicker

It appears that this is my 2000th blip and it has taken me a long time to get here, but I have made it! It isn't the best photo as it was taken at quite a distance and at a very high ISO, but I just loved the colors on this gorgeous bird.  Many thanks to those of you who still stop by my journal daily or from time to time to leave me such lovely comments, generous stars and hearts. Please know that I love reading them and appreciate it all very much.  I am sorry I am such a slacker and don't get much chance to reciprocate.

I went to Huntley Meadows this morning and found it quite busy with photographers. Since many are working from home, it seems they are starting their day with some therapeutic photography.  Everyone kept a respectful distance. The light was really beautiful, but it was still quite cold and there wasn't a lot of activity. This was one of the first shots I took.

I feel like I am trying to keep my head above water emotionally, and if I quit treading for a second, I will be sunk.  Every day the prognosis for the pandemic gets worse.  I am no longer on the front lines in the hospital, nor is my husband, and for that we are grateful, but we have the experience and first-hand knowledge to know just how horrendous this might get. I am encouraged every day when I watch the Governor of New York's press conference.  He is working with the governors of New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania and they speak as one voice taking the same actions.  Although he paints a grim picture, he is an excellent communicator and doing everything possible to stay ahead of this. That is very reassuring.  Some of his actions are prompting the federal government to be more aggressive.

I am finding it best not to think beyond two weeks to keep the waves of anxiety at bay.  Keep your distance, folks and stay safe.
