Around Merdeka Square

One of the first images that springs to mind when Kuala Lumpur is mentioned are the Petronas Towers.  There is no doubt they are a very imposing sight but in my opinion the nearby Sultan Abdul Samad Building is an even more outstanding sight.

It stands on Merdeka Square (merdeka translated means independence) and in the image I have posted, the architecture of the clock tower contrasts greatly with the gleaming Twin Towers to its left and the other skyscrapers that surround it.

There are other very striking buildings in the area including the Masjid Jamek Mosque which stands at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak Rivers which are at the very heart of the city (see extras).
