Garrick's Temple

This is a garden folly erected in 1756 on the bank of the river Thames by the actor David Garrick. It is across the road from Garrick Villa a large house lived in by the actor. There was a tunnel under the road to connect with his riverside lawn.
The folly was built to honour William Shakespeare whose plays Garrick performed to great acclaim in his career.
