Dog’s tooth violet

Erythronium dens canis

This is a bulbous perennial growing on our rockery. It is not really a violet being part of the Lily family. It is the underground bulb which is shaped like a dog’s tooth.

It grows naturally across Southern Europe from Portugal to the Ukraine.
In Britain it is popular among alpine gardeners. It is very reliable and always puts on a good show.
