A Golden Glimmer ...

... of Light

... which is like the Covid-19 situation in New Zealand today.

Our total today of new cases is a remarkable 29, back to what it was just prior to Lockdown. That’s 17 days ago by my reckoning. We soared to 89 a couple of times. Our overall total of cases is 1239.

The PM said she’s very pleased indeed with our response to the Govt’s Covid-19 management and then told us we’re in a marathon which won’t ease off any time soon. Fair enough! There’s still only been 1 death, 14 are in hospital, 4 of them in ICU.

Jacinda Ardern said that a nationwide wall of defence has been erected and that we’re breaking the chain. It really does seem that she’s right too.

Our further defences depend on our Borders, intense contract tracing, & ramped up testing.
The Borders controls are to become even stricter, with everyone who comes into the country being required to spend 14 days in managed quarantine, whether they have symptoms or not. 18 hotels have been set up to facilitate this.

Jacinda does have a great team backing her up. Those include the Director General of Health Ashley Bloomfield, Professor Michael Baker from the University of Otago Wellington, a public health researcher, and Dr Siouxie Wiles, an eminent microbiologist. There are many others too, from the Police & Civil Defence - we’re still in a State of Emergency, and in nationwide Lockdown.

I hope those Kiwis that like pushing the boundaries will respect all of the above and not play up over Easter.
They’ll risk Jacinda calling them out as idiots if they do! And maybe more.

I’ve discovered that I can use wifi early in the morning or at dinner time. Many folk are working from home so the wifi facilities are stretched.
