Not so Scarce

On Day 1 of #30DaysWild I visited Holme Fen NNR, where the naturalised foxgloves are at their best, especially where there's been recent tree-felling. Plenty of (not so) Scarce Chasers on the wing, with several being obligingly territorial, and more Spotted Longhorn beetles than I think I've ever seen before, feeding on the bramble blossom. I was also lucky to see a Great Spotted Woodpecker returning to its nest in a dead birch tree with a mouthful of tasty grubs. Those woodpecker chicks are certainly very noisy!
